Harambe Cartel: Moise’s Robotics Team

High school isn’t just about sitting in class, attending school, and taking tests. It is about making new friends and having new experiences, about having fun and not always making the best decisions. All in all, it is about making memories. That is why extracurricular activities are so important, whether it is a club or a sport, how you spend your free time forms you as a person. These activities create lasting bonds with the people you encounter and even help you discover your passions and potential.

I recently joined Moise’s robotics team, “Harambe Cartel”, to try something new and maybe learn a few skills. I was amazed by the variety of the different fields in which you can work and the many benefits that they may bring you.

Different fields

At first, I thought that a robotics team only involved programming and engineering skills, none of which I had. But I found out about the many fields associated; like PR, design, mechanics, 3D design and programming. All of which can help you decide about your future career, improve your skills and look very good on a university application.

PR manages and obtains sponsors and promotes the team. If you choose design, like me, you will create all the stickers, banners and other things needed at a competition. Mechanics assumes working with and constructing the robot. In 3D design, you create all the parts crucial for a well-functioning robot. Last, but certainly not least, is programming which involves constructing the robot’s systemt to execute all the tasks. These fields are pivotal for a great robot, and overall team.

Competitions

Robotics competitions are much more complex than you think. The robot is not the only aspect that matters and that earns you points, but also your team’s stand. It must have a banner, stickers, pins or anything to hand out. Something as important as the robot is the team’s notebook and portfolio, which contains everything about the team, from the way that they obtain sponsors, to the construction of the robot.

Harambe Cartel has had a good performance at almost every competition. For example, they got 4th place at a League Meet in Timisoara, 4th place at Delta Force’s League Meet, 1st place at Bitmo’s League Meet, and 2nd place at a League Meet in Hunedoara. Even when they don’t win anything, they are well-spirited and optimistic, determined and motivated to do even better at the next competition.

The Team

The team is very united, and always willing to help each other. Each member is very dedicated to their field and has a lot of knowledge about it. Even though Harambe Cartel is not such a developed team yet, its members are welcoming, altruistic, and have a lot of potential to achieve something great.
